Today the Overwatch League and Twitter announced a multiyear deal set to bring highlights and livestream content to the platform.
The deal begins with the Overwatch League All-Star Weekend, this weekend August 25-26 at the Blizzard Arena in Los Angeles. All-Star weekend will have the best players of Overwatch League playing in a number of unique game modes: Lucioball Showdown, 6v6 Mystery Heroes, Widowmaker 1v1 and more. Overwatch League will be providing Twitter with near real-time video highlights, capturing the most exciting moments that are sure to come during the Pacific Division and Atlantic Division All-Star matchups.
Beginning with the second season of Overwatch League in 2019 will be a new weekly preview show, Watchpoint, which will cover upcoming Overwatch League matches, match predictions, analysis, stats and more. The show will be streamed live on Twitter via the official Overwatch League Twitter account.
Daniel Cherry, vice president and chief marketing officer for Activision Blizzard Esports Leagues, had this to say on the deal, “From the inception of the Overwatch League, the community on Twitter has always been one of our most passionate and engaged. That’s why we are particularly excited to announce this collaboration, beginning with the Overwatch League’s All Star-Weekend.”
“Twitter is where Overwatch League conversations happen and we’re thrilled to bring more content to the platform for several years. Overwatch League is one of the most Tweeted-about esports leagues on the platform, and this partnership will bolster that conversation.” said Rishi Chadha, head of gaming partnerships at Twitter.
The Overwatch League has 12 city-based franchise teams across North America, Europe and Asia, with two new teams announced this off-season and four more expected to be added before the start of season 2. While fans await the return of Overwatch League, they can enjoy the Overwatch World Cup which is currently ongoing and is set to conclude at BlizzCon in November.
