World of Warcraft: Watch the ‘Warbringers: Azshara’ video released at Gamescom 2018

The third installment in the Warbringers series is here.

For the past several expansions, Blizzard has released a series of YouTube videos to help flesh out the game’s story and characters. It started with Mists of Pandaria, and carried through Warlords of Draenor and LegionBattle For Azeroth‘s incarnation has been the Warbringers series, which helped bring some context to Jaina Proudmoore‘s new state of mind, and Sylvanas Windrunner‘s totally morally grey decision to burn down the World Tree and murder millions of night elves.

Today, at Gamescom, Blizzard released the third video in the series, Aszhara. While the discrepancies between the Horde and Alliance is naturally a main focal point of Battle For Azeroth, Aszhara is also playing a large role. You come across her in the Stormsong Valley questline, and we’ll no doubt be seeing more from her very soon.

It appears that the mysterious being who granted Azshara her awesome powers and transformed her and her subjects into Naga is none other than the Old God N’Zoth. We know N’Zoth has long been speculated as being imprisoned deep beneath Azeroth’s oceans and, following the death of Y’Shaarj, was the first Old God to be imprisoned by the Titans.

During the destruction of the Well of Eternity, Azshara, her city and all of her subjects were sent to the depths of the ocean. It was there that she made a deal with the Old Gods and was cursed and thus transformed into her monstrous Naga form. Azshara is the empress of Nazjatar, a Naga city deep below the ocean, situated within a trench.
