Setbacks in space: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 filming put on hold

“The timeline has been pushed out.”

Don’t clear out room on the shelf for Awesome Mixtape Vol. 3 just yet — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 production is on hold for the foreseeable future, according to a recent report from Hollywood Reporter.

Sources say that crew members, at this stage a small group that was prepping for pre-production, are being dismissed and are free to look for new work.

The news comes in light of the recent controversy surrounding Disney’s decision to remove James Gunn, director of the first two Guardians films from the project after a series of distasteful tweets were dug up from his Twitter account.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was initially set to directed by James Gunn and “was to have begun principal photography in the winter, either in January or February. The project was crewing up and was to have gone into full pre-production mode in the fall.” As of this writing, there is no release date or production date set for the film.

Will the delay behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a movie rumored to have included important Marvel cosmic characters like Adam Warlock (who was mentioned in the GOTG 2 credits) and the Nova Corps, put a wrench in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s longterm plans? Did Disney make the right decision in firing Gunn? Sound off in the comments.
