While DC Nation #3 revealed Red Hood and the Outlaws #26 brings Jason Todd a new costume, it has now been revealed that the entire series is going under a change of its own- being renamed Red Hood: Outlaw.

Writer Scott Lobdell broke the news in an interview with Newsarama‘s Vaneta Rogers, saying “As much as everyone loves the dynamic between Jason, Artemis and Bizarro (I have it on good authority Red Hood and the Outlaws is a favorite around the DC offices), there were discussions way above my pay grade: What would happen if Jason were alone for a while?”
Whether the decision was Lobdell’s or an editorial idea, this marks a significant change for a series bearing ‘Red Hood” on it’s cover. Red Hood and the Outlaws has always been a team book, with Jason leading the likes of Arsenal, Starfire, Artemis, Bizarro and, even Creeper in a murky war against organized crime.

The new title and new costume hopes to kick off a “new era,” as Lobdell puts it, one where Jason is making less jokes and cracking more skulls as he strikes out on his own. The last two issues of Red Hood and the Outlaws (issue #25 and Annual #2) have made it clear that Jason’s teammates aren’t joining him anytime soon and Lobdell doesn’t say how long the series will keep its new moniker, so fans may need to get used to the new title and lone-wolf Red Hood for a bit.
Personally, I am really excited for the new direction of this series, even if I don’t enjoy the new costume too much. I’ve always enjoyed the team aspect of both the New 52 and Rebirth editions of the Outlaws, but I think it will be a refreshing change of pace to see Jason Todd go it alone in a more violent, gritty story.
