Diego Luna set to reprise Cassian Andor role in live action Star Wars series on Disney+

The new series will begin production next year and explore the early years of the Rebellion.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Diego Luna will be reprising his role as Rebellion spy and saboteur Cassian Andor for a yet-to-be-titled live-action Star Wars TV series set to debut on Disney’s new streaming platform, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger.

“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna said in a statement to StarWars.com. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

The series will reportedly be an espionage-spy thriller set before the events of Rogue One, when the Rebellion is little more than a small contingency of freedom fighters against the overwhelming might of the Galactic Empire. The series joins Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian as the second live-action Star Wars series streaming exclusively on Disney+ and begins production sometime next year.

My take? Despite how immensely excited I am for The Mandalorian, this announcement has me more stoked than ever for Disney’s new streaming service. I strongly believe Rogue One is the most underrated and under-appreciated Star Wars film and I cannot wait to see the early days of the Rebellion, guerrilla tactics and all, explored further in a live-action series.
