Nenking Group unveil the name of its Overwatch League team: the Guangzhou Charge

The Charge are the first Chinese expansion team to announce its branding.

Today the Nenking Group became the first Chinese expansion team to announce its team name: the Guangzhou Charge. The team also shared its colors and branding.

The Nenking Group based expansion team unveiled the name of its Overwatch League team through the team’s Twitter account.

“We are the first eSports team to represent Guangzhou, and we want to express the spirit of our city and our team as first to lead the charge into a bright future.” said the Nenking Group’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Zhong Naixion.

The Charge colors were inspired by the dark blue waters, light blue skies, and lush green hills that come from the coast and mountains of their home region, which encompasses the Guangdong, Hong Kong and the Macau Greater Bay Area.

“We want to build an international organization and fanbase, so the goal for our team brand was to create a
symbol for Guangzhou that people from all of the world can instantly recognize. We took inspiration from iconic sports logos where simple letters have grown to represent an entire city.” said Chris Hwang, the team’s Marketing and Creative Director on the logo.

Fans can follow the Charge on Weibo, Wechat and Twitter @GZCharge, and Facebook at fb.me/GZCharge.

The Guangzhou Charge are the second Overwatch League expansion team to announce their team name, branding and colors today; only a few hours behind the Paris Eternals. Eight new expansions teams joined the Overwatch League this offseason, based out of Vancouver, Toronto, Paris, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and three Chinese cities: Hangzhou, Chengdu and Guangzhou.

The team will compete in the Pacific Division of the Overwatch League returns for its second season on February 14, 2019. At this time the Charge have yet to announce their roster.
