Netflix debuts the first teaser trailer for Gerard Way’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’

Gerard Way’s cult comic book series comes to Netflix.

The first teaser trailer for Gerard Way’s upcoming Netflix series The Umbrella Academy has been released. Based on the Dark Horse Comics comic book of the same name, the series is written by Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. Check out the teaser trailer below.

The Umbrella Academy first debuted in 2007 and quickly became popular among fans, and not just the ones who had followed Way over from his band My Chemical Romance. The year following its debut, the series won the 2008 Eisner Award for Best Finite Series/Limited Series.

The series follows a dysfunctional family of seven super powered children, all of whom were adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves a.k.a. The Monocle, an alien disguised as a famous inventor and entrepreneur. Hargreeves prepares them to save the world from an unidentified threat, but as time passes the family grows apart and the team disbands. Hargreeves unexpected death brings the team back together and they must work together to discover the truth behind his passing.

Starring in the series is Colm Feorte as Sir Reginald Hargreeves/The Monocle; Ellen Page as Vanya Hargreeves/The White Violin; Tom Hopper as Luther Hargreeves/Spaceboy; Robert Sheehan as Klaus Hargreeves/The Séance; Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison Hargreeves/The Rumor; Aidan Gallagher as Number Five/The Boy; David Castañeda as Diego Hargreeves/The Kraken; Mary J. Blige as Cha-Cha; Cameron Britton as Hazel; and Adam Godley as Pogo and John Magaro as Leonard Peabody.

Steve Blackman will be serving as series showrunner, with Gerard Way as an executive producer. All 10 one-hour episodes of The Umbrella Academy will premiere on February 15, 2019. Happy Valentines Day indeed.
