Frank Castle is back…but for how long?
The official Twitter account for Netflix’s The Punisher kicked this morning off with a short teaser with a simple warning, “Time to reload,” and a message that the second season is “coming soon.” This teaser doesn’t include an exact release date, which is odd.
Even stranger: Netflix also dropped a new ad today to give subscribers a taste of what’s coming to the streaming service in January 2019. Among a pretty full slate of original programming, including the return of their critically-acclaimed A Series of Unfortunate Events, there’s a clip at the end of the video that shows The Punisher hopping in his van for a night on the town, with yet another cryptic tease of “Coming Soon.”
This seems to imply that the show will be out in January, but the lack of a nailed-down release date is extremely odd. Following last month’s surprise cancellation of Netflix’s Daredevil, fans may be right to worry if this is another hint that the Marvel Studios shows on the streaming service are no longer a marketing priority. Only time will tell.
Season 2 of The Punisher is set to bring back Jon Bernthal’s grounded take on the haunted vigilante as he takes on the psychotic crime lord known as Jigsaw, played by Westworld actor Ben Barnes.
