Mark Millar and Greg Capullo’s acclaimed comic book sci-fi fantasy series Reborn, has been picked up by Netflix for a film adaptation. The news comes from a report out of Deadline, which also states that Sandra Bullock will be producing, and Chris McKay (The Lego Movie) will be directing.
Bullock will be producing alongside Vertigo Entertainment, the company behind production for the It film remakes, and she’s also rumored to be a potential lead for the film. Series creators Mark Millar and Greg Capullo will both serve as executive producers, with Samantha Nisenboim co-producing.
Reborn follows Bonnie Black, an 80 year old woman who dies and finds herself reborn in the world of Adystria, a magical land filled with monsters, dragons, and the eternal struggle between good and evil. In this strange magical world Bonnie reunites with friends and loved ones who died before her, but she’s unable to find her deceased husband, which is where her quest begins.
In 2017, Netflix bought Millar’s publishing imprint Millarworld, through which Millar has created titles such as: Nemesis, Kingsman: Secret Service, Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl, Jupiter’s Legacy, Chrononauts, and Reborn. Millar will continue to develop new properties for Millarworld and will oversee adaptations for TV series based off his existing properties which include American Jesus, Jupiter’s Legacy, along with Empress, Huck, and Sharkey the Bounty Hunter movies.
Prior to his deal with Netflix Millar worked as a creative consultant to Fox Studios on their Marvel films.
