The 1990s were an interesting time in pop culture. From the sudden rise and immediate fall of grunge music to the regular use of “NOT!”, the era saw many fads. It was also during this time that video games and Macaulay Culkin became pop culture fixtures.
The Home Alone series put Culkin at the forefront of various types of media while the burgeoning video game boom created memories that would last decades. ToeJam & Earl for the Sega Genesis was more Pootie Tang than Home Alone, but still popular.
Despite being on opposite ends of the pop culture spectrum, the two have come together in 2019.
Developed by HumanNature Studios, ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove is the latest sequel to the series. Culkin, who is a long time fan, is the executive producer of the game. While this may seem surprising, Culkin has previously shared his love of the original games.
