Team USA unveils full roster for Overwatch World Cup 2019

Will this team bring home the gold?

Team USA took to Twitter today to officially announce the final roster for the 2019 Overwatch World Cup.

The team stuttered the announcements over a few hours today, by announcing the players in groups per the role they’ll play: tank, dps and support. As with the Overwatch League and live servers, the Overwatch World Cup will be using the new Role Queue system.

First up, the support duo of Shane “Rawkus” Flaherty, of the Houston Outlaws, and Grant “Moth” Espe of the San Francisco Shock. Both players played for Team USA last year and this will be Rawkus’ third straight year in the role of support flex.

“Next up, our shields!” said Team USA in the announcement tweet. In his first time at the Overwatch World Cup is the San Francisco Shock’s very own Matthew “Super” DeLisi in the role of main tank. This marks Super’s third year in a row trying out for the team. Congratulations to him for finally making the cut!

Joining Super in protecting the red, white and blue is Indy “SPACE” Halpern of the Los Angeles Valiant. Who joins Team USA for the second year in the role off off-tank.

Last, but certainly not least, comes the DPS trio to round out the team. Corey Nigra of the Washington Justice is making his first appearance on Team USA. Jay “Sinatraa” Won of the San Francisco Shock, an MVP canidate and veteran World Cup player. And finally Kyle “KSF” Frandansia of the Los Angeles Valiant, another Overwatch World Cup first timer.

Last year Team USA last in a shocking upset to Team Untied Kingdom and the year before they dropped in the first round to Team South Korea. Hopefully we see a better showing this year and maybe, just maybe, Team USA will manage to dethrone Team South Korea — winners of the previous two year’s tournaments.

The 2019 Overwatch World Cup begins Friday, November 1, 2019 at Blizzcon.
