Marvel Studios releases first trailer for ‘Black Widow’

Perhaps it’s fitting that a trailer for the MCU’s top spy hit us in the middle of the night without warning.

Perhaps it’s fitting that a trailer for the MCU’s top spy hit us in the middle of the night without warning.

Despite Scarlett Johhansson’s character sacrificing herself in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios will be taking us on a side tour of a mission that (presumably) happened before Natasha Romanoff’s death. Considering that Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson are also set to appear in the movie, it’s likely that the film takes place after Widow was recruited into the Avengers.

The trailer also gives us our first look at Red Guardian (David Harbour), Iron Maiden (Rachel Weisz), and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), who has managed to avoid having her face burned off by Sauron despite the recent Disney/Fox merger.

We also get a couple of tantalizing glimpses of Taskmaster, who looks to be the primary antagonist for Natasha Romanoff and her extended spy family. We’ll have a more detailed breakdown of what we expect to see later, but this trailer has me very excited to see what director Cate Shortland will be doing with the character.

Black Widow is set to release on May 1, 2020.
