Fire Emblem’s Byleth: Three Houses joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Yet another Fire Emblem character has come to Super Smash Bros.

Nintendo has announced the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character as part of its first Fighter Pass set. Starting Jan. 28 Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses is joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.

Byleth’s inclusion as a playable character was announced today during a special Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Direct led by the games creator, the always overworked, Masahiro Sakurai.

Two versions of Byleth will be playable, both male and female, and Byleth will have alternate colors based on Sothis and the House leaders. Byleth has a variety of weapons at her disposal, as her attacks tap into the powerful Fire Emblem Heroes Relics as weapons. The weapons will be mapped to the character’s directional attacks. Byleth’s mobility will be limited but her range and variety should compensate.

Byleth’s final smash is aptly titled “Progenitor God Ruptured Heaven.” The powerful attack allows you to join forces with Sothis.

A new map accompanies every DLC character in Super Smash Bros. and Byleth is no different. The Garreg Mach Monastery will be a new venue for battle. The map pulls from iconic locales in the Fire Emblem Universe. Locations cycle roughly every 2 ½ minutes and destroying the market booths expands the stage.

Byleth will be available for $5.99 individually or through the Fighter Pass at $25 USD. In addition to Byleth’s announcement, Nintendo also shed some light on the Fighters Pass Vol. 2, which promises to include six more fighters for fans to speculate on. Also announced were new costumes for Mii fighters based on Assassin’s Creed, Mega Man, Rabbids, and Cuphead. Each costume will cost $.075 apiece. You can see the full Nintendo Direct presentation below.
