John Cena returning to WWE on SmackDown

This time around you CAN see John Cena.

Now that we’re officially on the road to Wrestlemania one of the top questions on fan’s minds has been will we see John Cena at this year’s event? The answer is now almost definitely yes.

Late Tuesday evening WWE announced that John Cena will return to the WWE Universe for the first time in 2020 and appear on Friday Night SmackDown on February 28 in his hometown of Boston, MA.

Cena hasn’t been seen on live WWE programming since his TV appearance back in July 2019 for the special Raw reunion episode where he engaged in a rap battle with The Usos.

At Wrestlemania 35 Cena was scheduled to wrestle Lars Sullivan but those plans were scrapped when Sullivan abruptly flew home before the start of an episode of Raw in which he and Cena were scheduled to begin their feud that would culminate in a match at mania.

WWE shared the announcement in a post on their site. Read it below:

John Cena will return to SmackDown on Friday, Feb. 28, as Team Blue continues down The Road to WrestleMania.

It was on SmackDown where The Cenation Leader made his dynamic debut nearly 18 years ago, when he channeled “Ruthless Aggression” to challenge WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in his debut match. Since that fateful night, Cena went on to become WWE’s standard-bearer, earning 16 World Championships and inspiring countless WWE fans to “Never Give Up.”

An icon in the ring and the star of such blockbuster films as “Bumblebee,” “Blockers” and the upcoming “F9: The Fast Saga,” Cena will soon bring his signature “Hustle, Loyalty and Respect” back to SmackDown, as first reported by WWE Backstage on FS1. Whatever this unparalleled Superstar has planned, you won’t want to miss it.
