Mezco Toyz 5 Points The Addams Family: The Complete Set review

Get into the Halloween spirit early with this new Mezco Toyz Addams Family set.

Growing up in the ’90s made a few things very certain, not least of which was the incredible dedication to the perfectly weird Addams Family movies. They were comical, slapstick, and featured a young Christina Ricci as Wednesday and Jimmy Workman as Pugsly to connect younger audiences to the narrative. Then in October 2019, the animated cartoon rebooted the characters for a new younger generation which continued the success of the series, as the movie reached $204 million globally in sales. As someone in their mid-thirties, it may seem silly, but purchasing the now-released Addams Family Mezco Toyz figurines was a no-brainer.

The complete set is now available on Amazon and Mezo Toyz and will run you $85 for the set of four. It may seem a bit late to be shipping these, but for Mezco this is a quick turnaround as they usually take upwards of a year or more from preorder date to ship date. As you can see below, the sets include a Thing in a different pose with each set including two figures: Lurch and IT, Morticia and Gomez, Fester and Pugsley, and Grandma and Wednesday.

The packaging is tight and nearly identical for each version, save for the names on the plastic case. Each set also includes a base as well as a foot holder. The base and foot older are a unique feature to this set since each figure is so tiny. There isn’t enough plastic to put a peg hole in any of the feet so Mezco created a foot wedge that then plugs into the black base.

It’s an interesting solution to a problem, although for the smaller figures like Pugsley and Wednesday the foot wedge is so big it takes away from the figure. Meanwhile, Fester and Grandma have clothing that blocks the view of the foot wedge so it’s not even noticeable. Morticia and cousin It, meanwhile, don’t need the foot wedge as their bases allow for a peg hole. These figures are pretty good at standing on their own — a shocking thing, since some of these have such tiny feet — and it’s worth praising Mezco for including them at all. For the Thing hands, Mezco blew me away with the bases — tiny clear pieces of plastic molded perfectly to allow the hand to seemingly float as if alive. A very nice touch.

Getting into the figures themselves, Thing has the right amount of detail and each of the poses are well made. Once again, this is a tiny set, which is perfect for your office desk or for smaller spaces and suits the cartoon look of the figures. Pugsley, for instance, is about as big as a 9-volt battery.

Note the red under his eyes and the rather crisp red paint. For how small these figures are, the detail work and painting are quite exceptional. Skin tone is a key detail Mezco did not miss either, from Wednesday’s pale complexion to Lurch’s slightly yellow/green undead look. For how tiny these figures are, they look great up close.

You won’t be doing a lot of posing with these figures, as most have only five to three joints. Legs can move on most (save for Pugsley, Morticia, and cousin It), but if you move them they won’t be able to stand, so what is the point? Arms can move too, but there are no elbow joints so the posing is limited. Wednesday and Morticia have waist joints, but again, there isn’t much you can do with that single joint.

Overall, this is a good set of Addams Family figures that are great for desk display, much like Funko POPs. Running $25 for each set of two, or if you’re getting them all, $85 for the complete set, the toys are slightly more money then you’d pay for a premium Funko toy, but you are getting two figures. I was blown away by the Thing hands and their mini-bases, and you can’t go wrong with the finer details in the set.

Good paint job, detail work, and some impressive Thing base design
It's a nice touch they offered bases at all
The foot wedge bases look a bit absurd on the smaller figures like Wednesday and Pugsley
Maybe a touch expensive given how small these figures are
8.5
Great
