After pulling A Quiet Place: Part II from its March 20 U.S. release date, Paramount has now set the sequel to be released on September 4. While it’s definitely frustrating to have to wait for such a highly anticipated (and great looking) sequel, it was obviously the right call. And besides, horror movies feel like a better fit in the fall, anyway.
Two other Paramount spring/summer releases also had their delayed released dates announced today:
Top Gun: Maverick – December 23 (from June 24)
The Sponge Bob Movie: Sponge Bob on the Run – July 31 (from May 22)
As a child of the ’80s/’90s, you better believe I was looking forward to watching Tom Cruise take on the role of Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell again. Still, a June release was probably too risky considering how close it would be to the most optimistic estimates of when things will start getting back to normal.
The new date for Top Gun: Maverick has also pushed Chris Pratt’s sci-fi war film The Tomorrow War from its December 25 release to a yet-to-be-determined date in 2021.
