Death Stranding’s PC release delayed to July 14

Kojima Productions’ temporary closure has caused the studio to miss the original June 2 launch.

Publisher 505 Games and studio Kojima Productions have delayed the release of Death Stranding’s PC port. The game was originally scheduled for release on June 2, but Kojima Productions has had all of their employees working remotely since late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result production has slowed.

The game will now launch on Steam and the Epic Games Stores on July 14. Death Stranding joins an ever growing list of upcoming titles that have been impacted by COVID-19, with The Last of Us Part 2 and Iron Man VR delayed indefinitely by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Amazon Games’ upcoming mmo New World delayed three months until August 25.

Death Stranding initially launched as a PlayStation 4 exclusive in 2019 and was later announced for PC earlier this year.

505 Games has promised that the port will feature high frame-rates supported by the more powerful and modern PC hardware, as well ultra-wide monitor support, and a photo mode (which arrived on PS4 last month). There’s also some crossover content with Half-Life, with the main character Sam Bridges seen wearing a Headcrab in the announcement trailer. Half-Life: Alyx, Valve’s VR fps that launched last month, features a Death Stranding Easter egg in the form of a piece of cargo.

Originally released on PS4, Death Stranding won numerous awards and received high praise from most reviewers. The game is set in an apocalyptic United States where Sam Bridges, the world’s best delivery man, must trek across the country delivery packages, reconnecting the country’s network, and avoiding invisible monsters, all with his premature child “BB” in tow.
