Lovecraft Country is a novel written by Matt Ruff that combines elements of Lovecraftian horror with the racial undertones of the 1950’s. A few years back, it was announced that it would be adapted for TV by HBO. Big names, Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams were attached to executive produce the series along with show runner, Misha Green.
The show is about a young man named Atticus Freeman who embarks on a road trip along with his friend, Letitia, and Uncle, George, through the Jim Crow U.S. to find his missing father. It’s a perilous journey as they face the bigotry of white America along with the supernatural monsters plucked from Lovecraft’s work.
A trailer was released today to promote the premiere of the show this August. Lovecraft Country stars Jonathan Majors, Jurnee Smollet-Bell and Courtney B. Vance as the traveling trio with Michael Kenneth Williams playing Atticus’ father.
