Today, Netflix released an extended trailer for Steve Carrell’s upcoming comedy series Space Force. Carell stars as General Mark R. Naird, who is assigned to lead the military’s newly formed branched of the United States Armed Forces.
While the last trailer gave us a sense of series’ tone, this one provides a better glimpse at the various (and hilarious) interactions we can expected to see from the show’s incredible cast.
As I’m sure you’re all well-aware, the United States Space Force is a real branch of the U.S. Armed Forces created late last year at the behest of President Trump. Since then, it has already found itself at the center of some comedically bizarre situations. Thankfully, the Netflix series appears poised to turn our collective confusion over the the need/purpose of the new military branch into comedy gold.
Everyone expects Steve Carell to be funny, but John Malkovich (who plays Space Force scientist Dr. Adrian Mallory) is the real stand out from this trailer.
I love that the series appears to depict a bitter rivalry between Space Force the United States Air Force, which had previously been in charge of all military space operations (via the Air Force Space Command). Noah Emmerich playing a surly Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who has it out for Carell, and his division should be all types of fun to watch.
Also, I’m not sure you could come up with better casting for a smarmy media manager than Ben Schwartz.
I do wish we’d gotten to see more of some of the other heavy comedic hitters in the cast, particularly Roy Wood Jr., Lisa Kudrow, and Jane Lynch. Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait before getting to see everyone in action–all ten episodes of Space Force will be released May 29 on Netflix.
