Yesterday, HBO released a second trailer for its upcoming series Lovecraft Country.
Based on the Matt Ruff novel of the same name, the show follows the trio of Atticus (Johnathan Majors), Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and George (Courtney B. Vance) as they search for Atticus’ missing father in 1950’s America. Along the way, they face a multitude of dangers from both violent racism and eldritch magic.
While this trailer doesn’t feature an awesome closing shot of a monster like the last one did, it does give us a much better idea of the story behind the series and is infinitely more chilling. Also, ‘070 Shake’ by the Pines (the song from the second half the trailer) is now officially on my personal playlist.
Lovecraft Country was created/adapted for television by Misha Green, who also created and produced Underground. Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams will be producing the series, as well. With a trio like that working off such good source material, it’s probably a safe bet that this is going to be one heck of a show.
Although a specific premiere date/time has not been announced yet, Lovecraft Country is set to debut in August.
