AEW Rankings: August 5, 2020: Here comes FTR

From unranked to the top of the pile.

Fear the Revolt and F*ck the Rest. AEW has released their rankings for the week of August 5, 2020 and Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, better known by their tag team name, FTR, are finally on the board. This has been a long time coming and after fierce contract negotiations one of the wrestling world’s hottest tag teams is now officially in contention for the AEW Tag Team Championship belts.

Let’s take a look at how each division measures up before tonight’s episode of Dynamite.

No real changes between this week and last week’s rankings for the men’s division. The biggest piece of news for the division is of course MJF’s incredible promo last week on Dynamite which subsequently lead to AEW announcing that the Salt of the Earth would be granted a title shot against AEW Champion Jon Moxley at the company’s new upcoming pay-per-view event, All Out.

AEW Rankings Men’s Division

AEW Champion: Jon Moxley (14-0 singles, 20-2-1 overall)
TNT Champion: Cody Rhodes (17-1, 24-6-1 overall)

1. MJF (8-0 singles, 13-2 overall)
2. Lance Archer (10-1 singles, 10-1 overall)
3. Brian Cage (6-1 singles, 6-2 overall)
4. Brodie Lee (5-1 singles, 7-1 overall)
5. Darby Allin (7-4 singles, 13-11-1 overall)

Things are really shaping up for the women’s division. Abadon secured another win on AEW Dark this week and has climbed another spot up the rankings. The division got a huge injection of talent with the debut of Diamante and Ivelisse, two veterans of the industry and incredibly talented in-ring performers. Diamante defeated Ivelisse in her debut and went on to face AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida last week in a title match.

The women’s division will also host its first tag team tournament in the form of the Double Draw. 16 women will make up 8 teams and it’s fully expected that newcomers Diamante and Ivelisse will team up and possibly win the whole thing. Keep your eyes on this tournament, we could see more new faces hit the division.

AEW Rankings Women’s Division

Champion: Hikaru Shida (15-1 singles, 20-7 overall)

1. Nyla Rose (7-2 singles, 14-6 overall)
2. Big Swole (5-3 singles, 6-7 overall)
3. Penelope Ford (5-4 singles, 7-6 overall)
4. Abadon (3-1 singles, 3-1 overall)
5. Dr. Britt Baker (4-4 singles, 13-8 overall)

Well, it finally happened. FTR has made there way on to the AEW tag team division rankings. And their position? Why the number one spot of course. Somehow a team that’s 5-0 is now ranked above the Best Friends at 12-4 and the Dark Order at 8-1. But hey, it wouldn’t be professional wrestling if it didn’t make any sense right?

The highlight of FTR’s ascent is without question the contract negotiations that were held on Dynamite last week. Cash Wheeler’s request for tag team appreciate night in his contract was a highlight, but Arn Anderson easily stole the spotlight when, for reasons understood by no one, was brought it as FTR’s contract specialist. AA took one look at the front page of a contract that was clearly a stack of papers long and dubbed it good to go. Now that’s a specialist if I’ve ever seen one.

I expect the situation between FTR’s courting of Hangman Adam Page will become a lot more interesting with their new position atop the tag division.

AEW Rankings Tag Team Division

Champions: Kenny Omega & “Hangman” Adam Page (11-0)

1. FTR (5-0)
2. Dark Order (8-0)
3. The Best Friends (12-4)
4. The Young Bucks (5-2)
5. Jurassic Express (5-2)
