In an interview with Anthony Breznican at Vanity Fair, The Flash director Andy Muschietti revealed that Ben Affleck will return to the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne.
The Flash’s 2022 solo film debut will feature the DC multiverse via the iconic 2011 Flashpoint storyline. With Barry Allen smashing in and out of alternate/parallel dimensions, it gives Muschetti plenty of opportunities to feature various incarnations of DC’s greatest heroes.
It was already announced back in June that Michael Keaton would be reprising his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne for the film, as well. While both Batmen are said to have pivotal roles in the story, Muschetti felt it was vital to involve Affleck’s version since he’s original/prime version for Ezra Miller’s character.
Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of the caped crusader is still the future of the franchise, but it’s nice to see that Batfleck isn’t being shuffled off into retcon oblivion. His part was one of the few things I consistently enjoyed about DC’s attempt at a connected movie universe–and his involvement (along with Keaton) in The Flash makes that movie even more of a must-see when it debuts.
