Scott Snyder is tearing up the indie-comics scene in the last few weeks and really the last year. Of late launching Nocterra on Kickstarter with Tony S. Daniel, blowing people away with Undiscovered Country with Charles Soule, and he’s been teasing since 2019 when he revealed Night of the Ghoul was on the way (more on that from our AIPT Comics podcast interview with Snyder). Yesterday on IGN, Snyder added to the pile of awesome indie books by revealing new series Chain with artist Ariela Kristantina (Adora and the Distance)
Per IGN, the series involves a mystery set during the collapse of human civilization. It was also supplied with a piece of promo art, which may serve as a cover too.
Published under Best Jackett Press, it hasn’t yet been revealed if this will go the Kickstarter route or be published by a specific publisher. Since Snyder told me on the AIPT Comics podcast his label doesn’t necessarily work with Image Comics exclusively this title could end up at any number of smaller publishers (BOOM! Studios comes to mind).
In the interview, Snyder said “Best Jackett Press is all about making the most exciting comics we can and I’m thrilled to pair with rising-star Ariela Kristantina for Chain, an upcoming book that’s different than anything I’ve tried.”
There hasn’t been a lot revealed about the book though one could surmise from the art it has something to do with the food chain. “It’s a whodunit at the end of the world. I’ve teased projects lined up with other artists as well — all of which are in production — but this is one that’s benefiting directly from your incredible support on our Nocterra Kickstarter campaign. I feel lucky and grateful to be working with Ariela, and I encourage all of you to go seek out her work and follow her on social media — she’s fantastic! So thank you again – we can’t wait for you to see all that we have coming…”
There are still a few hours to back Nocterra if you want to get in at the ground floor of Best Jackett Press publishing! Kickstart that here.
