After losing Chadwick Boseman to cancer, fans across the globe have been honoring the late actor as best they can. There have been tributes, an outpouring from fans and Boseman’s collaborators, as well a tribute to him gracing every Marvel Comics cover out last week. Similar to when Marvel Comics paid tribute to Stan Lee, the banner continues to be printed on the covers, and this week Marvel is adding a back-cover tribute as well as an interior tribute.
The tribute gracing the back of nearly every Marvel Comic is by Joshua “Sway” Swaby, featuring Boseman donning the Black Panther costume. Check it out below.
An additional tribute can also be found within the comic itself via a double page layout. It features art by Brian Stelfreeze with the words “Rest in Power Chadwick Boseman” and a Black Panther logo underneath a beautifully rendered image of Boseman.
To the left of the image is a few words from Ta-Nehisi Coates. You can read and see them both below.
Chadwick Boseman has played Black icons such as Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and James Brown to widespread acclaim. His performances were heartfelt, impactful, and incredibly important.
His role as Black Panther catapulted his career in 2018. His most recent film, Da 5 Bloods, released in cinemas on June 12, 2020, directed by Spike Lee. Boseman’s final film appearance will be Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom which was filmed in the summer of 2019.
