Adventures in Movies! Episode 92: Johannes Nyholm interview and Martial Arts

Kickin’ it like Segal Out for Justice.

After a month of horror, Blake and Nathaniel have gone in a different direction. This week, the two talk about martial arts movies. The Shaw Brothers, Van Damme, and ninjas are all discussed. Plus, a deep dive into sound design in movies.

The show starts with a talk about Ti West’s upcoming movie. So far, no details aside from a title have been released. Is that enough to grab the guys’ attentions? And how did West pay for being a trailblazer?

On this week’s edition of The Close Up, the two discuss how sound design and music can impact movies. They talk about the effects they loved the most and how silence can lead to an amazing experience.

Johannes Nyholm’s Koko-di Koko-da is one of the most surreal movies of the year. An examination of grief and guilt, the movie is a powerful one. Nyholm stops by the show to talk his movie and its themes.

Last week, Blake gushed with excitement over this week’s topic. As promised, Blake and Nathaniel talk martial arts movies. From the venerated Shaw Brothers to the more contemporary The Paper Tigers, the two go over some of their favorites. The also try to figure out just what Big Trouble in Little China is.
