Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney’s Investor Day presentation

Disney today shared a massive amount of information and announcements of upcoming Marvel Studios movies and Disney+ series.

During this afternoon’s Disney Investor Day presentation, Marvel Studios shined with an impressive slate of upcoming television and film projects. They were also much more generous with showing trailers and sizzle reels to the public, so that gets them some bonus points right off the bat.

Let’s start with the TV/Disney+ side of things.

Wandavision

(Disney Investor Day)

(Disney Investor Day)

We’ve known about this one for a while, but today’s presentation offered us a trailer that was equal parts whimsical and downright chilling. That’s a tough tone to balance, but the brief glimpse we see makes me think the series has a great chance to pull it off.

Wandavision premieres January 15 on Disney+

The Falcon and the Winter Solider

(Disney Investor Day)

The trailer posted below is by far the best look we’ve gotten at the highly anticipated series–and it’s GLORIOUS.

From the fantastic chemistry between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes to the breathtaking action sequences, this feels like a series that could rival The Mandalorian in cinematic swagger.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres March 19 on Disney+.

Loki

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

Remember that scene in Avengers: Endgame where the past version of Loki got his hands on the Tesseract/Cosmic Cube and peaced out?

Well, the trailer posted below picks up right after that moment…and things do not appear to be going well for this alternate version of the God of Mischief. We also get what appears to be a glimpse of Black Widow alive in Vormir (at 2:03) and Owen Wilson in a role that I might actually like for once.

In all seriousness, this looks great. Much like WandaVision, the trailer for the series provides us a glimpse of a show with the potential to balance humor and genuine thrills.

Loki premieres in May 2021 on Disney+.

What If…?

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

As a kid, I absolutely loved Marvel’s What If… comics. They provided endless narrative possibilities with no-holds-barred storytelling. Main characters could die, good guys could turn bad, and the Fantastic Four could get mixed up powers.

The gorgeous trailer for this new animated series (posted below) looks like it might be everything I’d ever hoped/dreamed of in a What If… series. Aside from a troubling lack of Spider-Man (which Sony will hopefully be cool about and let happen), every story they teased is something I’ve got to see play out. I mean, how can you not want to watch Bucky vs. Zombie Cap?

What If…? premieres Summer 2021 on Disney+.

Ms. Marvel

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

One of Marvel’s best new characters century is finally getting her own series. The production trailer below also features Iman Vellani totally freaking out over getting to play Kamala Khan, which is both heartwarming and hilarious.

Ms. Marvel premieres late 2021 on Disney+.

Hawkeye

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

We already knew about Hailee Steinfeld playing Kate Bishop, but now we also know that Alaqua Cox will be playing Maya Lopez, aka Echo. If they bring end Taskmaster as one of the villains I might lose my mind.

Hawkeye is expected to premiere in 2021 on Disney+.

She-Hulk

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

Tatiana Maslany will be playing Jennifer Walters, which is a perfect casting choice–especially if they spend a good chunk of time on She-Hulk’s law career and insane personal life.

But then we find out that Mark Ruffalo will be appearing as the Hulk (cool but expected) and Tim Roth will be reprising his role as Abomination from the 2008 Hulk movie. (WHAAAAAAAT?!)

No info was revealed about when She-Hulk would premiere on Disney+, but hopefully it’s before 2023.

Secret Invasion

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

In case you didn’t realize how big Disney+ had gotten, this series will feature Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos…in a TV show. It will also draw from the Secret Invasion storyline, which is one of the last Marvel Comics events that I actually enjoyed.

No specific release information for Secret Invasion was given, but announcing such great lead actors more than makes up for it.

Armor Wars

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

A series starring Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine that adapts one of the best Iron Man stories ever told?

Sign. Me. Up!

No other casting or release information for Armor Wars was provided, but knowing Don Cheadle is involved means you can probably bet on this being great.

Ironheart

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

A series about Riri Williams (starring Dominique Thorne) sounds great, but the thought of it not involving Tony Stark makes me a little sad :(

I’ll definitely still watch it, though–especially if we get a crossover with Ms. Marvel at some point.

No other casting or release info for Ironheart was provided (which also made me sad).

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

As if this weren’t great enough on its own, James Gunn will be writing and directing, as well. The special will be filmed while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is shooting. One can only imagine what type of shenanigans involving Christmas trees, Groot, and Drax’s lack of subtlety will occur.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will premiere in late 2022 on Disney+.

I Am Groot

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

Speaking of Groot, the baby version of him is getting his own Disney+ series of shorts. No other casting or release information was given, but it’s safe bet that I Am Groot will spawn a plethora of cute merchandising opportunities for Disney.

Moon Knight

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

We all assumed this was coming, but it’s still nice to have confirmation that one of my all-time favorite superheroes is getting his own series at some point.

Unfortunately, no specific release information was given.

Now, let’s check in on the movie side of things.

Captain Marvel 2

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation(Disney Investor Day)

I would’ve been excited about this movie no matter what, but finding out that Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (WandaVision‘s Teyonah Parris) makes my crossover/shared universe loving heart soar.

Captain Marvel 2 premieres in theaters November 11, 2022.

Shang Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

Production has just wrapped on this film. I’ve never been a big fan of the character, but Marvel has roped me into other stories I initially didn’t think would interest me. Considering how good the cast is, I’ll definitely be checking this one out.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to premiere in theaters July 9, 2021.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

Christian Bale jumps from DC to Marvel and joins the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder as Gorr the God Butcher. The film is set to premiere May 6, 2022.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

We don’t have a release date yet for this one, but we do know that Kathryn Newton will be playing Cassie Lang and Jonathan Majors will be playing Kang the Conqueror (!!!).

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness

Everything Marvel Studios announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation

(Disney Investor Day)

The film’s premiere has been pushed back (hopefully for the last time) to March 22, 2022.

Fantastic Four

(Disney Investor Day)

Now that Marvel has the rights to their First Family again, John Watts has the privilege of directing the first Fantastic Four movie that isn’t terrible.
