It has been just over 72 hours since The Prisoner Kickstarter launched from Wandering Planet Toys already meeting its goal and then some. With close to $70,000 (of an initial $20,000 goal) and 650 backers, it’s time for the project to start hitting some stretch goals. And, courtesy of Wandering Planet Toys, AIPT has the exclusive reveal of the second stretch goal: an inflatable Rover. The Rover will be unlocked when the Kickstarter reaches $80,000.
But wait, what the heck is the Rover? Wikipedia explains it “was a crucial tool used to keep ‘prisoners’ from escaping the Village. It was depicted as a floating white balloon that could coerce, and, if necessary, incapacitate inhabitants of the Village. In one incident, it even killed a person, but it is not clear whether the ability to kill was a normal feature of Rover or if this incident was a malfunction.”
According to Wandering Planet Toys co-founder (and Emmy nominated writer) Chris Wyatt, “The original ‘Rover’ used during production was actually just a weather balloon flying over the Welsh countryside that the production team noticed during a location scout, so it makes perfect sense to translate it into an inflatable toy.”
Check out the Rover below which you can now use to kill your action figures in the comfort of your own home.
“You cannot have The Prisoner without Rover. Rover is one of the most iconic terrors of television. Simple and surreal, Rover has become a character to itself. There is no way we could explore a line of The Prisoner action figures without including Rover. ORANGE ALERT!” — Wandering Planet Toys co-founder Gavin Hignight said in a statement.
The first stretch goal was unlocked when the project reached $60,000. Fans got the penny-farthing figure stand which you can check out below.
With 34 days to go, you can back the project on Kickstarter.
