Marvel Select (officially) reveals new Captain America figure

Marvel Select finally releases its official version of Sam Wilson as Captain America.

On Monday, Marvel Select officially released info and ordering details for its MCU figure of Sam Wilson as Captain America. A few images already leaked last month, but this is by far our best look at the figure…and, well, just take a look at the pictures and then we’ll talk about it.

After it became clear (and officially confirmed today) that the new Marvel Legends MCU wave would make Cap’s wings the Build-A-Figure, I fully expected to shrug off the small scale difference (Marvel Select is 7″ Scale) and put this one on a flight stand to soar above my Marvel toy shelves.

That decision became much harder when I saw how great the Marvel Legends version of Sam Wilson was. In addition to the translucent goggles, he has pinless articulation in his elbows and knees. Also, the BAF might be ridiculous, but the wings are articulated, have a Red Wing plug-in accessory, and come with a small flight stand.

The Marvel Select Version, on the other hand, has what appears to be very outdated and comparatively restrictive elbow joints.

As you can see from the pictures, Sam’s goggles aren’t transparent, which wouldn’t be too big a deal if the Marvel Legends version hadn’t made the transparent ones look so cool. Also, this could just be me projecting my disappointment, but the figure’s paint job and facial likeness don’t stack up well against its 6″ scale counterpart, either.

And I can live with the non-articulated wings, but not having Red Wing sucks — especially when the figure retails for $29.99.

I’m probably going to have to wait to see this one in person or at least watch a few toy reviews before deciding which version of Captain America to buy. If you’re ready to choose Marvel Select over Marvel Legends, however, the figure is available now from ShopDisney.com. They also have a slightly repainted version of the 2013 comic book Winter Soldier (and his ridiculous chin) on sale, as well.
