On Monday, Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline.com exclusively revealed that John Boyega will return to produce and star in the sequel to 2011’s Attack the Block. Writer/director Joe Cornish will also being returning, as well.
Most of you have likely seen this extremely fun film, but just in case: Attack the Block revolves around a London street gang fighting to survive an alien invasion in their neighborhood. Boyega plays Moses, the gang’s leader. There’s a lot more to the film than my two sentence plot summary, but you owe it to yourself to see the movie if you haven’t already.
Boyega definitely sounds ready to revisit the franchise, telling Deadline:
“It’s been a decade since Attack the Block was released and so much has changed since then. I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”
Writer director Joe Cornish was similarly enthused, stating:
“I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
There no plot details yet obviously, but you can bet we’ll be following the production of this one as it begins to ramp up.
