18 years after The Matrix franchise last hit theaters with 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions, Neo and Trinity are back this Christmas and today, we get our first real look at the fourth installment in the series, The Matrix Resurrections. You can watch the trailer below, or on YouTube:
While Neo and Trinity both appear in the trailer, conspicuously missing is Laurence Fishburne in his role as Morpheus (Fishburne has gone on record saying he had “not been invited” to be a part of the fourth movie). However, Yahya Abdul-Mateen appears and while his character is not named, it is widely speculated he is young Morpheus.
The trailer has everything a Matrix fan could want to hold them over until December: red and blue pills, hallway fight scenes, bullet time, and plenty of guns and explosions.
The Matrix Resurrections hits theaters December 22, 2021.
