On Sunday, Sean O’Connell of CinemaBlend.com got official confirmation from Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Fiege that Charlie Cox will return as Matt Mourdock/Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it was all types of shocking to hear Fiege even comment on such a rumor, he still played things close to the vest, stating:
“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”
So yeah…no confirmation on his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home yet. It’s worth noting, however, that Charles Murphy of Murphy’s Multiverse called this over a year ago AND said that Cox will definitely appear.
This is great news for Cox, who is on record as saying the role changed his life, but also great news for fans who adore the Netflix television show.
In the meantime, there are plenty of other places we could see Charlie Cox’s Man Without Fear show up. Aside from No Way Home, my best guess would be the upcoming She-Hulk series due to the heavy legal/courtroom aspect that the show will have. It’s also worth noting that Echo, who recently appeared in Hawkeye, plays a big role in Daredevil’s life in the comics. Considering her ties to Kingpin, it’s a safe bet that she and Matt will cross paths at some point.
Whatever the case, this is incredibly good news. Even if Fiege decides to ignore the superb Netflix Daredevil series (which would be a mistake), it’ll be great to see Charlie Cox back in the role he’s already played to perfection.
