The biggest new video games releasing the week of 2/21/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

If you still have money left in your gaming budget after so many great releases to start the year, then you’re in luck. This week caps off a fantastic February with even more must-have game releases.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen (2/22)

It’s been just over five years since Destiny 2‘s launch and the game is still receiving content with no end in sight. The expansion The Witch Queen arrives this week for $39.99. It includes a new weapon archetype in the glaive, a new crafting system, the new location of Savathûn’s Throne World, and, of course, new missions and raids. If you haven’t tried out the free-to-play Destiny 2, the release of The Witch Queen makes now as good of a time as ever.

Martha is Dead (2/24)

Martha is Dead is a first-person horror game set in 1940s Italy during World War II. It blends psychological horror with superstition and the supernatural. Some scenes from the game must be off the charts levels of disturbing as Sony is censoring the game on the PlayStations 4 and 5, in turn delaying the physical release of the game for those platforms. Mortal KombatThe Last of Us, and other games have certainly had disturbing M-rated content on Sony platforms, so one has to wonder what could be so horrifying in Martha is Dead to be removed.

Elden Ring (2/25)

Elden Ring may end up being director Hidetaka Miyazaki’s magnum opus. It takes gameplay elements crucial to the From Software experience — difficult enemies, intricate level design, deep customization — and brings them to an open world, which (and I’m sure you’ve heard this by now) was developed in collaboration with A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin. Elden Ring looks to strike a balance with difficulty and accessibility, with Miyazaki saying, “[W]e have many options at the player’s disposal to confront challenging situations and use their cunning to outsmart enemies and bosses. They can come back to something later when they’re at an impasse so that they can have this freedom of progression and not have to bang their head against a wall over and over.” I don’t know about y’all, but I cannot wait for Friday.
