Netflix reveals teaser art, release date for live action ‘Resident Evil’ series

Will this be one of the few ‘Resident Evil’ franchise adaptations that’s worth watching?

On Thursday, Netflix released some teaser art for their upcoming live action Resident Evil adaptation.

The streaming service also revealed that the eight-episode first season will debut on July 14. It will star Lance Riddick (portraying Albert Whesker) along with Siena Agudong, Ella Balinska, Paola Nuñez, Adeline Rudolph, and Tamara Smart. It was also revealed today in an exclusive report from Variety that Ahad Raza Mir has been cast in an unnamed role.

Netflix reveals teaser art, release date for live action 'Resident Evil' series

Not a whole lot of info there, but it’s by far the most we’ve heard or seen about the series since rumors about it began circulating back in 2019. The popular video game franchise has typically been very good. The movie and television adaptations…not so much. Netflix’s attempt will apparently draw from multiple parts of the franchise.

Are zombie survival horror stories played out? Absolutely. But as a ’90s kid who got the crap scared out of him playing these games back in the day, it’ll be impossible not to give this one a try.

On the off chance you don’t know the story, Resident Evil revolves around some very bad mistakes made by a bioweapons company called the Umbrella Corporation. When a particularly nasty creation called the Tyrant Virus (or t-virus for short) gets loose in the unfortunately named Raccoon City, things get really bad and bloody.

There’s a good deal of lore out there that explores what happened before and immediately after Raccoon City was destroyed. For this series, however, it appears Netflix is going to jump ahead a few decades from where we are now.

Read Netflix’s official description of the series below:

Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.
