‘Our Flag Means Death’ renewed for second season

Fan-favorite and the excellent ‘Our Flag Means Death’ to return with second season.

Showrunner David Jenkins and executive producer and star Taika Waititi are getting a second season of the fan-favorite Our Flag Means Death. The series, which saw a spike in viewership after the finale, did an amazing job subverting standards of queer representation through authenticity. It was also quite funny and well-acted too!

“We felt the show was special while we were making it, but fans’ open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes heading into a second season all the more sweet,” Jenkins said in a statement. “Thanks to our team at HBO Max, our invested executive producers, and our wildly enthusiastic audience for making another voyage to this world possible.”

Loosely based on 18th century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet (played by the excellent Rhys Darby), the second season will see Bonnett and Blackbeard (Waititi) hopefully rekindle their relationship. Make no mistake, the idea of a gentleman pirate learning how to be a swashbuckling buccaneer, while the much-feared Blackbeard learning a bit about being a gentleman is a great concept.

The show also starred Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, Guz Khan, David Fane, Rory Kinnear, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, Fred Armisen and Leslie Jones. As a huge fan of this show and comedy in general, it’ll be fun to see who might guest star with Will Arnett just one comedian who made an appearance in season one.

Waititi’s next work, and voice acting role as Korg, can be seen in July’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
