‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’ announces Raphael Saadiq as executive music producer

The multi-Grammy winner will help capture the feel of NYC through music on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Kamala Khan isn’t the only teenage Marvel super hero to receive a television series. The brilliant Lunella Lafayette is protecting her own neighborhood of the Lower East Side in the animated Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

The story follows the 13-year-old super genius, Lafayette, who accidentally transports a 10-ton Tyrannosaurus rex to present day New York City (NYC). Together, the unlikely team patrol the streets looking for any danger.

To help capture the feel of NYC, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur have enlisted the talented Raphael Saadiq to serve as the executive music producer. The three-time Grammy Award winner incorporates numerous genres of music in his score including Jamaican, Funk, R&B, and Yiddish to represent the different cultures in the city.

Actress, Diamond White, is doing double duty for the show. Not only does she voice the titular Moon Girl/Lafayette, but she provides the vocals for the theme song and other songs during the season.

To accompany the announcement of Saadiq’s involvement in the show at this year’s Essence Fest, a video featurette was released highlighting the song writer/producer and the music. The featurette also provided some of our best looks at the cool and vibrant aesthetics of the series.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is slated to premiere in 2023 on Disney Channel and Disney+.
