On Friday, Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Julius Onah will be directing the next Captain America film. The movie will star Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, who recently took over the Captain America mantle at the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The film’s script will be penned by Malcolm Spellman, who also served as the showrunner on the recently completed series.
As for Julius Onah, he is best known for directing The Cloverfield Paradox…which is definitely not ideal. In his defense, however, Paradox’s problems were largely due to the script, which was a complete mess. From a visual standpoint, it actually looked really good.
Onah also received multiple accolades for his 2019 star-studded independent film, Luce. If anything, that should prove he can make great things happen when there’s a good script (something that’s very likely with Malcolm Spellman writing it).
No start date or co-stars for Captain America 4 have been announced yet, but that information should start flowing now that a director is in place.
