The biggest new video games releasing the week of 7/11/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The summer of gaming is in full swing! The year started off fantastically, with major releases like Pokémon Legends: Arceus to Horizon Forbidden West to Elden Ring all releasing in early 2022, and that fantastic trend looks to continue through the summer months with bombastic Triple A games and indie darlings releasing left and right.

Let’s check out what games are hitting storefronts this week.

Xel (7/12)

Xel is an isometric adventure game where you explore the world of Xel and “uncover its dark past.” The beautiful and vibrant Xel blends hack-and-slash combat with puzzles that rely on unique time manipulation to be solved. A social element is at play in Xel as well as protagonist Reid will be meeting and bonding with various NPCs on her journey. Reid has no memories of her past and it’ll be up to the player to unravel her past life. The game launches this week for PC and Switch and later in 2022 for PlayStation and Xbox.

The Walking Dead: Last Mile (7/11)

The Walking Dead multimedia franchise continues to expand with The Walking Dead: Last Mile, which premieres today. It blends video games and TV to create a “massively interactive live event (MILE)” where viewers will control the story of the game moment to moment. The Skybound Entertainment game will be exclusive to Facebook Gaming and Facebook Watch. “With The Walking Dead: Last Mile, audience members can stream a living, breathing world of The Walking Dead, working collectively and individually to impact the story at every turn,” TWD creator Robert Kirkman said of the game when it was announced.

Time on Frog Island (7/12)

Sandbox platformer and puzzle adventure game Time on Frog Island arrives this week, digitally on the 12th and physically for Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation on Friday. You’ll play as the shipwrecked sailor on an island full of quirky frogs as you work to repair your ship. Fans of Animal Crossing and Cozy Grove will feel at home with Frog Island‘s colorful cast and relaxing gameplay.

Also check out: The Tale of Bistun, Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom, DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace, and Pokemon Puzzle League arriving on Switch.
