The biggest new video games releasing the week of 7/25/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The summer of gaming is in full swing! The year started off fantastically, with major releases like Pokémon Legends: Arceus to Horizon Forbidden West to Elden Ring all releasing in early 2022, and that fantastic trend looks to continue through the summer months with bombastic Triple A games and indie darlings releasing left and right.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Digimon Survive (7/29)

Digimon Survive has been a long time coming. Originally announced in 2018, it arrives on PC and last-gen consoles this week after numerous delays, the start of a pandemic, engine switches, and even a developer switch, which forced the game’s development to be restarted from the ground up. Digimon Survive will blend several game genres together to create a visual novel where the player’s choices impact the direction of the story in between survival sections and tactical battles.

MultiVersus beta (7/26)

MultiVersus‘s beta goes public tomorrow after being available for a week to those who gained access to the closed alpha from May. The free-to-play platform fighter (think Smash Bros.) includes characters from several WB properties, with Rick & Morty from their eponymous show and LeBron James from Space Jam: A New Legacy being the latest characters announced for the game — and expect more to be on the way. All progress and rewards will carry over from the beta to the full game when it launches sometime this year.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (7/29)

After five years, the Xenoblade Chronicles series continues with Xenoblade Chronicles 3. The newest entry will explore the futures of the worlds from the previous two games. It’ll follow a group of six main characters as they become fugitives in a war between rival nations. XC3 is an action RPG like its predecessors, keeping with the blend of real-time combat with sprinklings of tactical elements, and introduces the ability to swap between heroes during battles. Check out the overview trailer below for more on Xenoblade Chronicles 3‘s gameplay, world, characters, and story.
