Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 08/08/2022

Our Channel Surfing TV picks are all comic themed and drop on Wednesday.

Wednesday is a big day for our Channel Surfing TV picks since they all air on that day. See what kind of mischief a tiny tree can get into in I Am Groot. The supernatural events at Keyhouse will come to an end in the final season of Locke & Key. Then, see what happens after Harry’s dramatic “birthday party” when Resident Alien returns.

The Innocence of Youth

Groot became a break out character in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film despite not having varied dialog. Then he became even more adorable when we saw him as a baby version of himself continuing the adventures with the motley gang of heroes.

Though he’s at a later stage in his life currently in the MCU, I Am Groot, the series composed of five animated shorts, returns to the time when he was a toddler. Even at that age, he was getting into trouble with unusual characters we have yet to meet so expect a few surprises. Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and James Gunn lend their voices to the show.

Watch I Am Groot beginning Wednesday, August 10, on Disney+.

The Final Showdown

A lot has happened when we last left Locke & Key last fall. The Locke family and their allies were seemingly able to kill Dodge and retrieve most of the magical keys. Tyler needed to take a break and manage his trauma from the whole ordeal including the incident with Jackie.

Now the series, inspired by the comic of the same name from creators Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, returns for its third and last season. A new big bad for the Locke children has been unleashed in Captain Gideon. While confronting this threat, they find that their home is still filled with surprises and sometimes you can’t keep a good demon down.

Binge the new season of Locke & Key starting on Wednesday, August 10, on Netflix.

Earth’s Only Hope

The season two order for Resident Alien, inspired by the work of comic creators Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, was so large, that they needed to split it into two parts. The midseason finale last March helped set up the narratives in the latter half so it appears Harry and company will have a lot to deal with.

There is an alien baby on the loose with an appetite for flesh, including humans. Harry learns there is another interstellar threat to Earth besides his people but is shot before he can get all the details. Speaking of which, Asta comes to his rescue but must wrestle with the repercussions. That doesn’t even include the person, who very much has eyes similar to Harry, coming for Lieutenant Logan and General McCallister. So many loose threads to address.

The second season of Resident Alien resumes Wednesday, August 10, on Syfy.
