BOOM! Studios revealed Jason Aaron’s Once Upon a Time at the End of the World yesterday, and today they’ve announced the artist for the first issue! The five-issue series will launch with Alexandre Tefenkgi on art with a November 2022 release date.
“Alex imbues these characters with such life and emotion that we can’t help but want to follow them across the ruined wasteland and see where their story leads. It’s a story that begins with two children, meeting each other in a tower by the sea, but it’s most definitely not a children’s story. And in Alex’s hands, the end of the world has never looked more beautiful or harrowing,” said Aaron.
So what’s Once Upon a Time at the End of the World about?
Maceo and Mezzy have never met anyone like each other, and they’ll need all the help they can get to survive a planet ravaged by environmental catastrophe. This epic trilogy–each issue overflowing with 30 story pages–spans a lifetime as the dark mysteries of a ruined world and their own stark differences tear at the threads holding Maceo and Mezzy together.. Will they, and the earth beneath their feet, ultimately be torn apart?

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 16, 2022) – BOOM! Studios announced that Eisner Award-winning artist Alexandre Tefenkgi (The Good Asian) will be the series artist for the first five-issue arc of ONCE UPON A TIME AT THE END OF THE WORLD, an epic post-apocalyptic series from Eisner and Harvey Award winner and New York Times bestselling writer Jason Aaron (Thor, The Avengers, Southern Bastard) with colorist Lee Loughridge and letterer AndWorld Design, about a love story at the end of the world that’s brutal and nostalgic, whimsical and grounded… and ultimately, timeless. BOOK ONE of this epic series, entitled LOVE IN THE WASTELAND, will be available in stores starting November 2022.

Alexandre Tefenkgi is an award-winning comic book artist and visual creator of The Good Asian and Outpost Zero at Image Comics. Since his first book in 2009 in France, Tefenkgi’s work has been published and awarded in multiple countries. He specializes in character driven stories and emotional poetry, and his craft is devoted to expressing the complexity of human relationships.
