Don’t miss these movies in September

Comedy, horror, and everything in between.

The end of summer usually sees a bit of a lull in regards to movies. The break between the season blockbusters and Oscar bait is the time use to slow catch their breath. This year is different, as September sees the release of some of the most anticipated movies of 2022.

Burial (September 2: Select theaters and On Demand)

Set during the waning days of World War II, Burial tells the fictional story of a small band of Russian soldiers tasked with delivering the crated remains of Hitler back to Stalin in Russia. En route, the unit is attacked by German “Werewolf” partisans and picked off one-by-one. An intrepid female intelligence officer leads her surviving comrades in a last stand to ensure their cargo doesn’t fall into the hands of those who would hide the truth forever.

The Harbinger (September 2: In theaters and On Demand)

Hoping to escape their past, Daniel and Theresa Snyder move their troubled young daughter Rosalie to a quaint Midwestern town, but they are followed by the evil they tried to leave behind. When locals begin to die, the Snyders turn to a Native American seer and uncover a legend that may hold the key to saving their family, or a path to a grisly end for them and all they hold dear.

Clerks III (September 13: In theaters)

Clerks is one of the most influential indie movies of all time. It is not surprising that director Kevin Smith has gone back to the series so often during his career. It is fair to ask whether there really needed to be a third installment, however. In the latest film, Randall has a heart attack and teams with old friends and familiar faces to make a movie about their lives at Quick Stop.

Goodnight Mommy (September 16: Prime Video)

Remake of the 2014 Austrian movie about twin brothers whose mother has just had reconstructive face surgery. However, it is clear to the siblings that something seems off. The original is atmospheric, beautiful, and unsettling. Will the update be able to capture the same qualities that made the source material so disturbing?

Moonage Daydream (September 16: In theaters)

The first officially sanctioned film about David Bowie uses narration from the iconic artist to showcase his genius and creativity. Includes never before seen footage, performances, and music. This is one of the easiest picks of the month.

Pearl (September 16)

was a dose of old school horror that is not found in theaters as often as it once was. Mixing a grindhouse sensibility with dark humor, Ti West’s latest film was gory and fun. The prequel looks like more of the same. Pearl explores the origins of the villain from X.

Don’t Worry Darling (September 23: In theaters)

There is plenty of controversy and excitement surrounding Olivia Wilde’s second feature film around its cast. From rumors about wage gaps to a steamy cunnilingus scene, many seem to have forgotten there is a creepy horror story to be told. Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack Chambers (Harry Styles) are a young, happy couple in the 1950s, living in the seemingly perfect company town of Victory, California. But when Alice begins to look into the “Victory Project”, tensions begin to rise.

Blonde (September 28: Netflix)

Marilyn Monroe is an icon whose sex appeal, personality, and charm still remain decades after she died. Blonde is a fictionalized take on her life starring Ana de Armas and adapted from the book by Joyce Carol Oates. The movie will be the first to be released on Netflix with the NC-17 rating.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism (September 30: Prime Video)

Set in 1988, the story follows two friends attending high school. They have been inseparable for years, but hey have also never had to deal with the fact that one of them may be possessed. A perfect lead in for the month of October.
