NYCC 2022: DC’s Jim Lee & Friends panel reveals ‘Batman’ cover art by Joe Quesada

The news is out, Joe Quesada will be supplying covers for ‘Batman’ and DC Comics in 2023!

Today, Jim Lee hosted his recurring panel Jim Lee & Friends, which always features art reveals, new details on future stories, and guests, which included Joe Quesada. Possibly the most significant news out of the panel involved Joe Quesada and how he’ll be supplying Batman variant covers in 2023 to the main series! Previously the Editor in Chief at Marvel Comics, Quesada recently exited the company and has moved his talents to DC Comics.

It was announced that he’d be designing covers for DC titles in 2023, exclusively revealing his variant cover art for Batman #131 (January 3, 2023) and Batman #132 (February 7, 2023).

It’s worth checking out Chip Zdarsky’s newsletter on this news since he has quite a tale to tell about Quesada quitting Marvel to draw Batman (joking…we think!).

It was also revealed Mike Hawthorne would be drawing Batman, with Jorge Jimenez rejoining the series soon. Check out a page from Batman by Hawthorne below!

The panel also included Marc Silvestri to discuss his “buddy cop horror story,” Batman/The Joker: The Deady Duo. Silvestri talked to Lee and fans about the early days of pitching and planning the series, how his approach has evolved as both writer and artist from the start until now, why the relationship between Batman and The Joker has captivated fans for so long, and more details about what fans can expect when this seven-issue limited series launches November 1, 2022.

Writer John Ridley also joined the panel to talk with Jim about his body of work, past, and present. Ridley chatted with Lee and the audience about the current and future trajectory of Jace Fox since his move from Gotham to New York in I Am Batman. That all leads to the upcoming limited series G.C.P.D.: The Blue Wall, debuting October 18, 2022. The series was first announced at SDCC.
