The biggest new video games releasing the week of 10/17/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Autumn is in full swing, and with it comes spooky season. Game releases have been ramping up with publishers looking to get their games out before holiday shopping really begins. This week is full of excellent releases, so let’s take a look at what games are hitting stores.

A Plague Tale: Requiem (10/17)

De Rune siblings Amicia and Hugo — plus hundreds of thousands of rats — return in A Plague Tale: Requiem. Set six months after A Plague Tale: Innocence, the sequel has players once again taking on the role of Amicia as she guides her brother on a quest to find some sort of cure for his mysterious blood affliction. It’ll certainly follow in the footsteps of its predecessor in terms of telling a heartbreaking and emotional story as Amicia will have to continue grappling with the emotional trauma from taking so many lives and losing her innocence in the first game.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (10/20)

Nintendo’s Mario and Ubisoft’s Rabbids collide once again in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. It’ll build on the first game by adding new characters, like Bowser and Rabbid Rosalina, while also adding to the gameplay. The turn-based gameplay will ditch the original’s grid-based system while also opening up the levels and making them less linear. Real-time encounters will also be added, further mixing things up.

Gotham Knights (10/21)

Batman fans get to return to Gotham for the first time since 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight. However, they’ll be doing it without Batman. Gotham Knights is set after the death of Batman and will feature four members of the Bat Family — Nightwing, Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Red Hood, and Robin (Tim Drake) — as playable characters who protect Gotham from threats, namely the Court of Owls, who will be the main antagonists of the game. It’ll support two-player co-op during the campaign at launch with a separate four-player co-op mode coming in November.

Also worth checking out: Marvel Snap, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, New Tales from the Borderlands, Harmony’s Odyssey, The Last Hero of Nostalgia, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC, Batora: Lost Haven, and Persona 5 Royal on PS5, PC, Switch, and Xbox consoles.
