James Gunn, Peter Safran named co-CEOs of DC Studios

Gunn will manage creative decisions and continue to direct while Safran handles producing and behind-the-scenes work.

Looks like Warner Bros. might actually be doing something right for a change with regard to their DC Comics properties.

On Monday, Aaron Couch and Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that James Gunn and Peter Safran will be co-CEOs of DC Studios, which replaces DC Films. The new division will include nearly all film, television, and animated projects using DC characters with a few exceptions (like Todd Phillips’ Joker films).

While anyone reading this knows who James Gunn is, they might not be as familiar with Peter Safran, who has worked as a movie producer and talent manager since the late ’90s. Some of his more recent hits include The Suicide Squad and The Conjuring film franchise.

According to Couch and Kit’s report, Gunn will work on the creative side of things while Safran handles the business and behind-the-scenes work. Gunn will also continue to direct DC-related projects, which is likely to give both Warner Bros. and DC fans a justified reason to hope for a better future.

Read Gunn and Safran’s joint statement to The Hollywood Reporter about their new positions below:

“We’re honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were children. We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent. We’re excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told.”
