Hasbro tests Star Wars price limits again with $70 2-pack

Star Wars Black Series takes the lead over the Vintage Collection in exorbitant price hikes.

*Sigh*

On Tuesday, Rob Keys of Screen Rant exclusively revealed a new Star Wars: Black Series two-pack from Hasbro. This one would feature carbonized versions of the Imperial Royal Guard and TIE Pilot. Although the figures are repacks, they’ll be bathed in a small vat of body glitter carbonized, providing them with a distinct shimmer. That doesn’t do a whole lot for the Royal Guard if you keep the soft goods cloak on him, but whatever — it’s still a relatively neat-looking gimmick.

The figures will also come in retro Kenner/Vintage Collection-style packaging, which is nice for folks who like to keep their toys on the card.

Unfortunately, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks has decided to once again see how far he can push prices in his quest to raise the company’s revenue by 50% over the next three years. In this case, the price point for the Royal Guard & TIE Pilot 2-pack is $69.99. That comes out to a whopping $35 per figure before taxes.

For a pair of base figure repacks.

And don’t you dare try to say the figures being “carbonized” makes them that expensive or I’ll throw the leftover glitter from my wife’s baby shower all over you.

If you don’t mind getting completely ripped off (and letting Hasbro know that they can continue raising prices at triple the rate of inflation), then this Amazon exclusive set will be available for preorder on Wednesday at 1:00 PM EST.
