Marvel’s Midnight Suns was a “commercial flop,” according to Take-Two

‘No excuses,’ if you’re on the fence about Marvel’s Midnight Suns — a three-hour free trial is now available.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns, despite scores of positive reviews, was a “commercial flop,” according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. He recently spoke with Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier about Take-Two’s down fiscal year, chalking it up to a lack of new big titles, among other factors. For us Marvel nerds, the notes about Midnight Suns are most relevant.

Zelnick suggested Midnight Suns’ disappointing sales were due to its timing, saying, “the release window wasn’t perfect.” Midnight Suns suffered several delays since it was announced in 2021 and finally released on December 2, 2022, after Black Friday sales had already begun and after major games like God of War Ragnarök and Call of Duty Modern Warfare II released and scooped up sales.

This news isn’t too surprising, as Midnight Suns started going on sale just a month after its release. You can easily find it for twenty dollars off for $49.99 or $79.99 for the Legendary Edition, which includes Deadpool and three more upcoming DLC characters. If you’re on the fence about the game, you can download a three-hour free trial on Xbox and a two-hour trial on PS Plus Premium, with designer Jake Solomon saying, “[G]o play it. No excuses at this point.” The trial will be available until January 27, 2023.

Midnight Suns is now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions currently do not have release dates, and if Midnight Suns did underperform so severely, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were canned altogether.
