March has a number of big releases to keep movie fans busy. Ghostface will be going on a road trip, Jonathan Majors plays the antagonist in a major franchise for the second month in a row, and John Wick is ready to test your patience. Here are some of the biggest movies coming out this month.
Creed III (Theaters; March 3)
Did the Creed franchise breathe new life into Rocky? The first two movies were great sports dramas, and the third looks to add to its impressive legacy. Star Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut as Adonis Creed has to deal with a former friend from his past.
Children of the Corn (Limited; March 3)
Stephen King went from horror author to cultural icon long ago. Not only are multiple works by him adapted to screen each year, there are adaptations of adaptations. The latest iteration of Children of the Corn is neither a sequel or prequel. It is a fresh look at the short story about a cult of murderous children.
Scream VI (Theaters; March 10)
The marketing behind Scream VI has resulted in some of the best horror movie posters in recent memory. The latest entry in the franchise sees Ghostface take his act on the road. Will his trip to the Big Apple be a fresh start to or end up as poorly received as when Jason took Manhattan?
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (March 17)
James Gunn has an uphill battle ahead of him. The DC Extended Universe has not been interesting for years. While the first Shazam! movie was a pleasant surprise, its sequel looks worse with each trailer. Add another DC star with a history of putting their foot in their mouth and you have a film that only appeals to hardcore fans.
65 (Theaters; March 17)
No, it is not a movie about when the last good Star Wars movie was made. Adam Driver stars as a man stranded on Earth 65 million years ago. Driver is fantastic and a theater audiences could use a new dinosaur flick. Looks like a lot of fun and has all the right ingredients, but will it stand out in the crowded March field?
John Wick: Chapter 4 (Theaters; March 24)
The John Wick movies have never been short on excitement, but a near three hour runtime is pushing things. Will fans tire out from all the action or does the four part go against Wick’s nature and slow things down a bit? The legendary hitman is out to bring down the High Table. A new enemy stands in his way, however.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (Theaters; March 31)
It is somewhat surprising that a property as big as Dungeon & Dragons has never had a proper big screen adaptation. (The movies released in 2000 had a troubled production and was poorly marketed and ended up being ignored in theaters.) Is this the movie D&D fans have been waiting for all their lives? A strong cast and some promising trailers have amped up the excitement.
