Sins of the past return for Norman Osborn in ‘Gold Goblin’ #5

Norman Osborn can’t escape his sins in ‘Gold Goblin’ #5.

Spoilers ahead for Gold Goblin #5. You’ve been warned.

Gold Goblin has explored a new Norman Osborn who has been absolved of his sins yet still has the memories of what he did. This has allowed him to become a hero. This hero still has a glider, but now he’s gold and gets some extra gadgetry. That makes him new and improved but definitely not incapable of making the same mistakes, which we see at the end of Gold Goblin #5.

Leading into the issue, we learned Queen Goblin has her abilities due to Norman’s sins. His sins are literally inside her, which gives her the Goblin Stare ability to force the sins upon a person. We saw with Black Cat in Amazing Spider-Man #89 they can make you lose yourself and take your own life. She wants to do the same to Norman in this issue but finds herself starring not at Gold Goblin but Spider-Man.

This sends Norman into a fury, not only because it’s his good buddies with Spider-Man, but because he can’t escape his sins now being weaponized on Spidey.

Using Queen Goblin’s weapon, he does the unthinkable. Again.

Gold Goblin, aka Norman Osborn, snaps the neck of Queen Goblin. Of all the ways to take her out, that has to be the worst for Norman especially since he’s been seeing Gwen Stacy’s ghost throughout the issue who also happened to have her neck snapped due to Norman’s actions.

This leads to the final page with Norman completely wrecked. His sins may be gone, especially now that they died with Queen Goblin, but his guilt remains. Possibly forever.

What do you think, readers? Will Norma Osborn continue to be a hero, or will his sins catch up to him and turn him into a supervillain once again? For that matter, will he face the consequences of killing Queen Goblin? I suppose we’ll find out in another title since this was the final issue of Gold Goblin. That’s only part of the story, I recommend you read the entire issue to get the total weight of the series.
