During Sunday night’s baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Texas Rangers, Marvel Studios released a new trailer for its upcoming Secret Invasion series. Much like the previous trailer, the espionage series presents a much darker tone than we’ve seen in recent MCU streaming shows.
Here are some of the key moments interspersed with all those cool shots:
- The trailer opens with Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) telling Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) that things have gotten much worse since he left Earth for an extended vacation. To drive the point home, we see a Skrull bad guy named Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) detonating a bomb in what appears to be Moscow.
- The narration then changes to Nick Fury’s frenemy Sonay Falsworth (Olivia Coleman), who asks her old ally/rival if he feels it falls to him to win this clandestine war. During her lines, we see a shot of Talos’ daughter G’iah (Emilia Clarke) finding a room full of…something. Whatever it is, it’s ominous.
- Maria Hill (Colbie Smulders) grieving over someone’s body after what appears to have been an air strike.
- James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) warning Fury that he’s “the most wanted man on the planet.” This moment is preceded by a scene of Fury being surrounded by gun-toting agents of some kid and him saying that he needs to fight this war alone.
- G’iah warning Fury that he doesn’t know what “they” have planned for him. In the next scene, we see Sonya Falsworth walking into a room to torture someone.
- Gavik kicking Nick Fury’s ass.
- Gavik busting out some of his awesome powers.
- The trailer ends with Fury saying that he’s ready for “one last fight.”
Secret Invasion is set to begin its six-episode run on June 21 exclusively on Disney+.
