Sony releases new trailer for ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’

If you’re going to be chased by thousands of Spider-People, weird things are bound to happen.

On Tuesday, Sony released a new trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film. While a lot of things were revealed in the previous teaser, this one shows a great deal more.

Let’s go over a few of the highlights:

  • Miles Morales’ life as Spider-Man is causing more strain with school and family — especially his mom, Rio Morales.
  • Spot’s powers are cool, but he’s still kind of a joke (and a hilarious one, at that).

  • Gwen takes Miles to the meeting point for Spider-People from all over the multiverse, which she refers to as The Lobby.
  • For some reason, Miguel O’Hara (aka Spider-Man 2099) does not want Miles anywhere near his team of multi-verse heroes. He also directly references the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which likely means he wasn’t a fan of Miles’ multiversal shenanigans in the last film.

  • Despite the clear foreshadowing of his role as the film’s antagonist, Spider-Man 2099 wins the hearts of comic fans everywhere by referring to the MCU as Earth-199999. Despite the MCU characters continually/incorrectly referring to their universe as Earth-616 (the mainline Marvel Comics universe), this is the correct designation.
  • Peter B. Parker has a daughter now, who comic fans will recognize as May Parker.
  • Either we’ll be revisiting the death of Peter Parker in Gwen Stacy’s universe or Peter B. Parker ain’t making out of this one alive.

  • At some point, Spider-Man 2099 sends all the Spider-People after Miles, which is obviously terrifying, but also provides plenty of comedic moments, as well.
  • The conflict between Miles and Miguel appears to be centered around Spider-Man 2099 wanting him to be willing to sacrifice one person to save many. Because he’s wonderfully idealistic (and awesome), Miles refuses to give up on trying to do both.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse debuts in theaters on June 2, 2023.
